A Simple Introduction to the Chakras

During the past couple of weeks since I started to speak to people about the Mindfulness and Chakra Balancing workshop, I have had a number of people ask me about Chakras and what they. Subsequently in this simple introduction to the chakras post, I am going to discuss –

  • What Are Chakras?
  • What Do The Chakras Do?
  • A Simple Introduction to the Chakras

Let’s get started..

What Are Chakras?

Chakras are energy centres that run along the spine of your body. The term Chakra (pronounced CHUK-rah) is derived from Sanskrit and means “wheel” or “circle” and these wheels or circles allow energy and light to flow in and out of the body. There are many chakras within the body, however there seven (7) main chakras (you can read below for more information about them).

What Do The Chakras Do?

The chakras are where energy is distributed throughout the body. Each chakra is connected to nerves, organs and body system (i.e. the physical) as well as other levels of our being, including the mental, emotional and spiritual.

When every aspect of your life is flowing, your chakras are open and balanced (with a few hiccups here and there). If some of your chakras are not open or doing their job properly, you will notice some areas of your life working and some areas not working. If you are in a constant struggle, unhappy and life is not flowing in any area of your life, your chakras are not doing their job.

In the Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle writes “…keep attention in the inner energy field of the body as you look around the room. The inner body lies at the threshold between your form identity and your essence identity, your true nature. Never lose touch with it.”
